Goldsmith's is run by Courtney Goldsmith and her husband, Jordan.  The Goldsmith family starting the Inn in 1989, and it is now ran by the second generation.  We hope you find your stay calming, comfortable, unique and enjoyable!

Goldsmith's Riverfront Inn, a historic three-story brick structure built in 1911, began its life as the University of Montana president's house, originally occupied by Clyde Duniway, the university's second president. Duniway's tenure was brief, and the house later passed to Edwin B. Craighead, then to its builder, Charles Cowell, who raised his family there. The house witnessed Missoula's growth and the development of the university around it.

The house's history includes a colorful period as the ATO fraternity headquarters in the 1950s and 60s, followed by a stint as the university's zoology department annex, where, legend claims, resident ghosts arrived due to the basement's use for storing animal specimens.

By the late 1980s, the house had fallen into disrepair, and the university planned to demolish it for a parking lot. Public outcry led the university to offer the house to anyone who could move it off campus. The Goldsmiths took on this challenge, moving the 4,000 square foot structure in two halves to its current location on the northern banks of the Clark Fork River. The move was a spectacle, drawing considerable attention.

The Goldsmiths then undertook a significant renovation, transforming the interior into a six-room bed and breakfast, each with private bathrooms and modern amenities. For 31 years, they welcomed guests, sharing Montana's beauty and Missoula's history.

In 2020, the Inn transitioned to an Airbnb/vacation rental property. The units were updated into self-sufficient apartments with kitchens and laundry facilities, and the entire house received a refresh with new paint, fixtures, and furnishings. The Inn continues to offer guests a unique experience, blending history and modern comfort.
